What to Expect

Welcome to Journey Evangelical Church (JourneyEC)! We’re so glad that your are interested in learning a little more about us. JourneyEC was originally founded as Chinese Presbyterian Church of Orange County in 1980 to minister to English-speaking Chinese Americans. A small group of families from True Light Presbyterian Church lead by Reverend Wayland Wong started meeting in rented facilites, primarily at Circle View Elementary School in Huntington Beach. The church emphasized a welcoming, family and community oriented atmosphere and from just a handful of people, JourneyEC has now grown into a congregation of nearly 300.

In 1994, the church moved from Huntington Beach to Westminster and purchased it current campus. In 2007, Wayland Wong retired and Chinese Presbyterian changed its name to Journey Evangelical Church. The congregation now, not only includes English-speaking Chinese Americans, but also a diverse array of other cultures and ethnicities. Currently led by our Senior Pastor Richard Pfeil, our vision is to be a Gospel-centered Church – a Church that preaches the basic Gospel message that, when received by the power of the Holy Spirit, will change a person’s very nature. That change is immediate and also gradual. The Christian live is a process whereby the Spirit takes the grace of God expressed in the cross of Jesus, and works it into every area of our lives so that we are not only saved by grace spiritually but live by grace personally.

The path for this transformation in involves four things, which if we put into practices, we grow us into a Church flavored by the Gospel. We will become a Gospel-centered church.  We will be a church saved grace and shaped by grace! These four practices are:

  • Welcome – God calls us to accept one another as Christ has accepted us, regardless of human distinctions. Romans 15:7) The natural result of being a welcoming congregation will be diversity, with faith in Jesus being our unifier.
  • Compassion – Compassion is grace expressed in tangible ways, i.e. care for the poor, aid to new immigrants, counseling for those in crisis, practical service to the community out of love. (Colossians 3:12)
  • Missional – The greatest act of compassion a believer or a church can bestow on another person is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. Being a missional church means the focus of our ministry is not Sunday but Monday – Saturday, the time what the majority of the church’s ministry occurs through its people. (Matthew 28:20)
  •  Discipleship – Once a person hears and receives the Gospel message their walk with Him begins and it’s our role as a church and as believers to journey with each other and aid in their walk with God by being an authentic community of faith that points people back to Jesus and His Word.
