Journey Evangelical Church’s Statement of Faith
Why We’re Here
We were created by God to worship and enjoy Him forever. Because of sin, we became separated from God.
God is the creator, redeemer and sustainer of all things, including humanity. He is the only true God, manifest as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Bible is the uniquely inspired, infallible, and authoritative word of God. It proclaims the saving gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ and teaches all that is necessary for faith and life.
The Lord’s Sacrifice
Because humanity chose to sin after being created by God, all became separated from Him. In His great love for us, God chose to send His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin.
Our Relationship with God
By accepting Christ as our Savior, we are adopted into the family of God. Within the covenant community of the church, God’s grace is extended through the preaching of the Word, the administration of the Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper), mutual ministry to one another, and tangible expressions of grace to our community.
We affirm that every Christian is called to proclaim the good news of salvation through Christ and to live lives that demonstrate His love, compassion and care for others while growing closer to Him.
We believe there is no part of human life that is off limits to the sanctifying claims of God. We are to yield every aspect of our lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Because of this, we confess the following in response to contemporary challenges:
- All human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
- We believe that God established marriage for humanity as a lifelong covenant between a (biologic) man and a (biologic) woman.
- We believe that God lovingly reserves sexual intimacy for marriage. Any sexual act outside of marriage is considered a sin against God and our own body. It is contrary to God’s design for us and therefore harmful to us.
- Further, we believe that every person, no matter what choices they make in their lives, are to be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity so that through our witness they too may experience the forgiveness and redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
*This Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Journey Evangelical Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our congregation, led by its pastors and elders and in alignment with the historic teachings, confessions, beliefs and practices of the Church Universal, is this church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
